First let me say HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KAREN!!! We're thinking of you today, hoping you are enjoying being with the Stivers family, especially the new baby. We love you!
Spring is here and it is certainly beautiful today, but you have to admit, this past month has been interesting weather-wise. It has not made building, planning, and scheduling smooth, but Thuan is undaunted. Here is what has happened since my last post:
The Framers began by cutting and laying out lumber to be bolted to the slab. The kids couldn't help playing in a new open space that wasn't dirt.
Beams with support studs are made ready to be the top of the frames for the windows.
A crew of six other framers arrives Saturday, 2/16, to put the pieces together. The walls begin to go up.
The frame for the front wall of the living room goes up. Also notice all the slanting long boards used as supports to keep the skeleton frame up right until more stablizing parts of the structure are added
The beams to support the second floor are put in place and then framed around the sides.
Now the second story floor is glued to the cross beams (to prevent the floor from sqeaking) and nailed in place.
The second story floor is nearly in place. The lighter and lower areas on either side are for outside decks.
A new crew came last Saturday (3/1) to put up facing or shearing around the outside of the frame. Its beginning to look like a house.
Today the framers are cutting and planning for the walls of the second story. Hopefully the walls will go up this weekend.
Once again, let me encourage everyone else to post and send news...Cedar Reads... Nathan... Paul... Elise... (side note: there is a woman in my ward named Elise Reel) Chinh.... Christiane.... anyone! I don't get to hear about everyone much anymore (my fault, I know). This really is a great way to all keep in touch! Love to all!!
